Drawing
The revision does not match the rest.
The title block says revision B, the file is called Rev A and the revision table shows the last change of last month. After that everyone assumes they are working on the right version.

01 What it is
Revision does not match, briefly explained.
A revision deviation is a difference between what the title block says, what is in the revision table and what the file name or the PDM system indicates. All three should point to the same version.
It is one of the few errors you do not see in the model. The model can be right while the drawing claims to be a different version.
How you notice it
- The revision field in the title block and the last line of the revision table differ
- The file name ends in a different revision than the drawing itself
- The date in the title block is before the last change in the table
- Two drawings of the same design mention different revisions
In a check
This shows up as error in the check of the drawing. You judge what has to be done about it.

Three sources, three answers. Whoever is sent the PDF only sees the file name and gets to work on what they think is revision A.
How it comes about
- The revision was updated in the table but not in the field in the title block, or the other way round
- The PDF was plotted again from an older version of the drawing
- A drawing was copied as a basis for a new one and the revision stayed
- The revision is typed by hand in the title block instead of linked to a property
03 Approach
Find, fix, prevent.
How to find it
You only find this by reading the text on the drawing and putting it next to the file name and the model. With one drawing that is doable, with thirty it no longer is.
- 1 Read the title block: drawing number, title, revision and date.
- 2 Compare with the last line of the revision table.
- 3 Compare with the file name and with what the PDM system gives as the current revision.
- 4 With several drawings, check whether they mention the same revision among themselves.
Fix
- Link the revision field in the title block to the property in the CAD or PDM system, so there is only one source left.
- Plot the PDF again from the current drawing instead of renaming the old PDF.
- Put the revision in the file name only if it comes along automatically.
Prevent
- One source for the revision: the PDM system, with everything filled from it.
- At release, check all drawings in one go for contradictions.
- Include the title block in your release checklist.

04 Frequently asked questions
Revision does not match.
01 Why is this such a persistent error?
Because nothing breaks. The model is right, the drawing is readable and the dimensions are good. The difference only comes to light when someone has to work out afterwards which version was made.
02 Can a check establish this?
Yes. The text of the title block and the revision table can be read from the PDF and put next to the file name and the other drawings. BOMproof reports contradictions as a comment, with a balloon at the spot on the drawing.
03 What if the drawing is scanned or plotted as an image?
Then there is no text in the PDF and the title block cannot be read. If you plot your drawings as a vector file, the text stays usable.
